Carlos Gomez’s journey to becoming a Senior Associate Attorney at Brotman Law is marked by his distinguished academic and professional achievements. Graduating first in his family with a bachelor’s degree in political science from UCSD, where he specialized in public law, Carlos furthered his education with a JD from California Western School of Law, graduating Magna Cum Laude and passing the California Bar in June 2021. During his time at law school, he made significant contributions, including publishing an article in the California Western International Law Journal, analyzing jurisdictional issues in international human rights cases.

Carlos's legal experience extends beyond academia. He interned at New Media Rights, drafting complex documents such as author release agreements and IP licensing agreements, and interned for the Honorable Karen S. Crawford at the U.S. District Court, where he honed his skills in case law research and legal drafting. His choice to specialize in legal taxation stems from his interest in the diverse fields intersecting with tax law, such as high tech and construction, which keeps his work engaging and dynamic.

At Brotman Law, Carlos focuses on Employment Development Department audits and Tax Optimization. Carlos has assisted several clients through the EDD audit process, achieving outstanding results, most leading to no-change audits and saving clients millions of dollars. He has also played a crucial role in helping clients save money through corporate restructuring and tax optimization strategies, projecting future savings of millions of dollars. His expertise spans various tax authorities, including the CDTFA, EDD, FTB, and IRS, and extends to handling similar issues across multiple states such as Illinois, Washington, New York, and Utah. This extensive experience enables him to provide comprehensive and effective tax solutions for his clients.

Outside of his professional life, Carlos is dedicated to continuous learning and personal growth. Prior to a trip to Japan, he enrolled in a Japanese language program, reflecting his commitment to cultural and linguistic exploration.

Carlos also shares his life with Moe, a 110-pound Mastiff-Pitbull mix who keeps him active with daily walks. In his leisure time, Carlos enjoys staying updated on tech news, indulging in slasher films like “Killer Clowns from Outer Space,” and immersing himself in the suspenseful worlds of Stephen King and Dan Brown novels. His diverse interests and engaging hobbies contribute to a well-rounded perspective, enhancing his ability to connect with clients and address their unique tax issues with a thoughtful approach.
